Women protest indecent dressing amongst female undergraduates in Imo state
Women in higher institutions located in Imo State yesterday protested
against immorality among female undergraduates in the state.
Over 500 women from Federal University of Technology, Owerri, under
the aegis of Federal University of Technology Owerri Women Association,
FUTOWA, staged a peaceful rally against indecent dressing, prostitution,
violence and other vices prevalent in tertiary schools in Nigeria.
Pension probe: Senate uncovers N3bn in illegal account
Senate joint committee on establishment, states and local
governments, yesterday, uncovered an illegal account with the United
Bank for Africa, UBA, holding N3 billion belonging to the Police Pension
Office.
The committee’s finding, while probing the management of police
pension fund, showed that the N3 billion was deposited in the account on
the same day it was opened under the name of Adamu Salihu and DG
(director general).

Blackout: Jonathan Fires 3 PHCN Chiefs
President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday ordered the immediate retirement of
three key functionaries in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN)
and its successor companies over the deteriorating state of power supply
in the country.
Minister of Power, Prof. Bart Nnaji, who broke the news at an emergency
meeting with chief executive officers (CEOs) of successor companies at
Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja, said new appointments were being made
to enable the sector reform regain momentum.

Holyfield who spoke in Port Harcourt yesterday said he would visit

Pension Scam: Release us from prison, Perm Sec, five others beg court
Having spent five days at Kuje Prison, the Permanent
Secretary in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the
Federation, Mr. Atiku Abubakar Kigo and five others, accused of
diverting N32.8billion from the Nigeria Police Pension Funds, have
approached the trial Abuja High Court at Gudu, begging it to temper
justice with mercy and allow them to go back to their families.
It will be recalled that Kigo, alongside his alleged accomplices were
on Thursday sent to prison by trial Justice Abukakar Talba shortly
after they pleaded not guilty to a 16-count criminal charge that was
preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,
EFCC.
Meanwhile, hearing on the substantive case against them has been fixed for May 28.

A lady named Ogo who passed away on the 27th of February 2012 had shared details of her struggles at home with someone close to her and the person has now published Ogo’s story online.
Along the same lines, on the 29th of
February 2012, Nigerian actress and blogger, Stella Damasus published a
personal account of her experience at a close friend’s funeral via PMNews and the struggles her friend went through in her marriage up until “her husband killed her”.

Luxury bus robbery: ‘I was saved by menstrual period’
One of the 42 pupils of the Holy Rosary College,
Enugu, Enugu State, who was attacked by armed robbers in a Lagos-bound
luxury bus at the Oke-Odo end of Sagamu-Benin Expressway, said she was
not raped because she is undergoing menstruation.
She said, “The robbers collected N1, 200 from me as
well as my mobile phone. When we were dragged into the bush, we were
ordered to lie down. The robbers would immediately point the flash light
at you and say ‘spread your legs open.’
